About Arnd Sketch

My name is Youri van der Arend, a fineliner artist from the Netherlands. Drawing is my passion since a very young age. For me it is pure relaxation and a way to process my emotions. Working with my hands is what I like the most and when I started drawing with fineliners it instantly felt like the best decision I ever made.

After the age of 8/9 years old, studying became priority and I had less and less time to be creative, that is why a good friend and I secretly drawed and designed large spaceships on a4 size sheets taped together all the way in the back of the classroom. There I found out that I liked drawing more than learning while being on school. 

In 2017 I started learning Graphic Design in Utrecht, Netherlands. This is a corporate job where I can release all my creativity, but most design work was online behind the desk on a computer. My hands began itching again. Although I graduated with great success and a mentor who said I will make it very far in life, I wanted to do physical work. Now I work in a print shop in Amsterdam.

In my free time I still want to be creative. If I can't release my ideas or the urge to create/make something, I feel less satisfied. 

In october 2024 I picked up drawing agian and the easiest technique to do everyday and everywhere seemed drawing with a fineliner in a sketchbook. I bought them and that is where it all started. 

Ambition

My goal is to inspire as much people as possible to also start drawing as a way of self expression, to relax and overall just create. Drawing itself has so much benefits, it is not only about the results, the process builds character, discipline, motivation, increasing attention to detail, being patient, improve hand-eye coördination etc,.

On social media I post the drawing process and results. Online on this website I sell my original drawings, prints in a6, a5 and a4 format and postcards.
